Ex-Oiler files concussion lawsuit against NFL and its teams

An attorney representing three former NFL players, including former Oilers tight end Jimmie Giles, said Friday that he and his colleagues are taking a different legal tack to pursue their clients' claims against the NFL and its teams for what they believe to be the league's failure to inform players about the dangers of multiple concussions.

Giles, who played for the Oilers in 1977 and went to the Buccaneers a year later in the trade that gave Houston the draft rights to future Pro Football Hall of Fame member Earl Campbell, joined former Buccaneers Arron Sears and Donald Smith in the suit, filed in a state district court in Tampa. Along with the NFL, the lawsuit names individual teams, including the Oilers under their current corporate guise as the Tennessee Titans, as defendants.

Charles H. Peckham of Houston-based Peckham, PLLC  has joined forces with renowned trial attorney Willie Gary of the Stuart, Florida-based law firm of Gary, Williams, Lewis, & Watson, P.L., and Employment attorney Marc Mezibov from Cincinnati, Ohio in an effort to expose the discriminatory actions that were taken by Miami University of Ohio.  Peckham and team filed the multi-million dollar Federal lawsuit this week on behalf of their client, Monica Ways, a present employee of Miami University of Ohio, who was subjected to retaliation as well as discriminatory practices based on her race and gender according to the suit.

Peckham, PLLC would like to thank Mr. David H. Hanchey, a dear friend of this firm, for his acting as Of Counsel in Louisiana.  As David expands his practice, he has become Of Counsel with Dudley DeBosier in New Orleans and is no longer affiliated with Peckham, PLLC.  Dudley DeBosier's gain will not be our loss though as we look forward to working with him on a case-by-case basis in the future.
